Motosumo Announces Nick Coutts as New Chairman of The Board

December 03, 2019

Nick Coutts has been appointed chairman of the board at Motosumo, the world’s first all-in-one group fitness app.

Revolutionary group fitness app Motosumo is thrilled to announce the appointment of its new chairman of the board, Nick Coutts. Nick will replace his predecessor, Nana Bule, CEO of Microsoft Denmark, who has been on the board since 2016.

“Naturally, we’re sad to see Nana leave,” said Motosumo CEO, Kresten Juel Jensen. “She has been a crucial part of our growth and success. Under her direction, we’ve become a scalable SaaS company and currently have monthly growth rates of 10-15%. So, we are eternally grateful for Nana’s guidance and massive contribution.”

Motosumo’s new chairman, Nick Coutts, stepped into his new role on 1 December. With almost 20 years of experience in the fitness industry, Nick has garnered a reputation for his disruptive approach. In 2011 he co-founded Fitness Hut, a chain of low-cost fitness centres in Portugal, which, in a few short years, became a national market leader. It was acquired by Spain’s Viva Gym in 2018, creating the largest low-cost fitness group on the Iberian Peninsula. Prior to that Nick was the CEO of premium fitness chain Holmes Place.

As CEO of Fitness Hut, Nick pioneered the concept of “premium low-cost”, which was particularly successful in a market hard hit by the 2008 recession. The philosophy was centered on creating a low-cost model for gyms, without sacrificing the human touch. This was done by focusing on stellar customer service, providing a wide variety of group fitness activities, and creating a culture that values trainers and instructors.

“Nick’s experience in the industry and his approach to fitness is very aligned with what we do,” said Kresten. “Motosumo might be powered by a lot of very complex and sophisticated tech, but, ultimately, it’s all about the experience of bringing people together to train and have fun.”

Nick agreed. “It’s a remarkable concept that resonates with me on a personal level. Fitness is not just about health; it’s about communities. And it’s amazing to see how Motosumo helps build communities for its instructors and end users.”

He also believes that the app’s impressive growth rate is a sign of things to come. “Motosumo has the potential to become a leader in the world of group fitness,” he said. “It’s a unique platform with an enormous amount of potential. I’m excited to get started with the team! And one of the first things on our agenda is to prepare for an upcoming series A round of investment.”

Based in Copenhagen, Motosumo makes group fitness fun and inclusive with an app packed full of gamification features and advanced tech.

Using the sensors in smartphones, Motosumo provides analytics only found in expensive, high-end fitness equipment, which makes it a cheap and powerful instructor tool for any gym.

Fitness solutions needn’t be super serious and elite. We want group fitness to be about community. An enjoyable, welcoming space for users to compete, compare, and cooperate.
